Derr & Isbell Project featured in New York Times An article in The New York Times, published online Nov. 20, 2014, highlighted the new roof being constructed at the Arthur Ashe Stadium where the U.S. Open is held. SEAA member Derr & Isbell Construction is the steel erector on the project. The new retractable roof is expected to be completed in time for the 2016 tennis tournament. According to the article by Naila-Jean Meyers, Ashe Stadium cannot support the weight of a roof because of the swamplike soil it sits on and its size—with more than 22,500 seats, it is the largest stadum in tennis. Therefore, a 5,000-ton superstructure is being built around and above the stadium, which will be covered with a translucent fabric.
