AISC Issues New Requirements for Certified Steel Erectors Participants in AISC’s erector certification program are now required to submit a current Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the American Institute of Steel Construction, LLC and Quality Management Company, LLC as additional entities covered by the insurance and Waiver of Indemnity Agreement annually. AISC published the new Program Requirements for AISC Certified Erectors of Structural Steel on October 31, 2014 and revisions were made on February 20, 2015. These requirements are the governing criteria for the erector program and reference the new Standard for Structural Steel Erectors - 2013 (AISC 206-13). They establish the rules and regulations that form the relationship between AISC and program participants. The goal of the program is to embed a quality management system within an organization to increase productivity, which helps to reduce unnecessary costs and ensure the quality of processes. Learn more about the new requirements during an education session presented by Todd Alwood & Larry Martof of AISC, on Friday, April 24, during SEAA’s 43rd Annual Convention. SEAA members supported the early development of the AISC Erector Certification program from concept through development and are advised to stay abreast of the changes to the program. Highlights of the changes include moving from a checklist format to a Quality Control Inspector format; strong references to Chapter N ANSI/AISC 360-2010; and the option to apply for three endorsements rather than separate levels of certification. The current document can be found at www.aisc.org/erectorcertification which is a new channel to reflect the updated program. This channel serves as the hub for all structural steel erector-related certification information and resources for both applicants and currently certified participants. It can be accessed through both the Applicant and Participant pages on the AISC Certification homepage, www.aisc.org/certification (which has also been reorganized with a new, streamlined look). The Erector Certification channel contains the new program requirements for all erector applicants (effective as of 2/2/15), as well as information on transitioning current erector participants to the new program requirements. Additionally, a Certification Bulletin will be posted to the channel this spring to address the transition of current erector participants. If you have questions or comments, please contact AISC Certification at certification@aisc.org.
